Document Field Types Guide

When configuring a document in Pactvera, you can drag and drop different field types onto your PDF to collect information from recipients. Each field behaves differently depending on its type and settings.

Tip:

  • Fields can’t be both Required and Read Only.

  • Read-only fields must have a default value.

  • Every signer must have at least one field assigned to them before sending a Pactvera.


Below is a detailed guide to each available field.

✍️ Signature Field

Purpose

Collects the signer's verified signature. This field is required for each recipient with the “Signer” role.

Document Editor View

  • Simply drag and drop the signature field where you want the signer to sign.

  • No additional configuration options are required.

Document Signing View

  • Recipients will see the signature field when they open the document.

  • They click the field to open the signing window and can sign using a mouse, touchpad, or touchscreen.

  • After signing, they click Complete to finish.


📧 Email Field

Purpose

Collects the signer's email address.

Document Editor View

  • Place the field anywhere on the document.

  • No extra configuration required.

Document Signing View

  • When signing, recipients will see the email field populated with the email associated with their ChainIT account.

  • Clicking the field automatically fills and signs it.

  • After reviewing, they click Complete to finish.


🧍‍♂️ Name Field

Purpose

Collects the signer’s full name.

Document Editor View

  • Place the field where you want the signer’s name to appear.

  • No additional setup is required.

Document Signing View

  • The name field automatically fills with the signer’s verified name.

  • Clicking the field confirms and signs it.

  • The signer then clicks Complete to finalize.


📅 Date Field

Purpose

Records the date of signing.

Document Editor View

  • Place the field where you want the date to appear.

  • No additional setup required.

Document Signing View

  • Automatically fills with the current date and time when the signer clicks the field.

  • The signer reviews and clicks Complete to finish.


📝 Text Field

Purpose

Collects text input from the signer.

Document Editor View

  1. Drag and drop the text field where input is needed.

  2. Click the Sliders icon to open the settings panel.

Available Settings:

  • Label: Text shown in the field.

  • Placeholder: Example or hint text.

  • Default Text: Pre-filled value.

  • Character Limit: Maximum characters allowed.

  • Required: Field must be completed.

  • Read Only: Displays fixed text, not editable.

Rules:

  • A field cannot be Required and Read Only at the same time.

  • A Read Only field must have a default text value.

  • Signer must fill out required fields and stay within the character limit.

  • Read-only fields can’t be edited.

  • Fields auto-sign if they contain a default text value.

Document Signing View

  • The signer can edit the field unless it’s read-only.

  • To change the value, they click the field, update it, and re-sign.

  • If they exceed the character limit, an error appears.

  • Once complete, they click Complete to finish.


🔢 Number Field

Purpose

Collects numeric input from the signer.

Document Editor View

  1. Place the number field where numeric input is needed.

  2. Click the Sliders icon to open settings.

Available Settings:

  • Label: Field name.

  • Placeholder: Example number.

  • Default Value: Pre-filled number.

  • Number Format: e.g., decimals, currency.

  • Required / Read Only: Toggle as needed.

  • Validation: Define rules or limits.

Rules:

  • The value must be numeric.

  • Cannot be both Required and Read Only.

  • Read-only fields must have a default value.

  • If min/max limits are set, default values must fall within range.

  • Must match any defined number format.

Document Signing View

  • If editable, the signer can click and change the value.

  • Read-only fields display fixed numbers.

  • The signer confirms the value and clicks Complete to finish.


Radio Field

Purpose

Allows the signer to select one option from a predefined list.

Document Editor View

  1. Drag and drop the radio field.

  2. Click the Sliders icon to open settings.

Available Settings:

  • Required / Read Only

  • Values: Add the list of selectable options.

Rules:

  • Cannot be both Required and Read Only.

  • Must have at least one option.

  • Only one option can be selected.

  • Default value (if set) auto-signs the field.

  • Read-only fields cannot be edited.

Document Signing View

  • The signer selects one option by clicking it.

  • After selection, click Complete to finish.


☑️ Checkbox Field

Purpose

Collects multiple selections from a list of options.

Document Editor View

  1. Place the field where you want the checkboxes.

  2. Open settings via the Sliders icon.

Available Settings:

  • Validation Rules: Define how many boxes must be selected.

  • Rule Type: At least, At most, or Exactly.

  • Number: Set the minimum/maximum/required count.

  • Required / Read Only

  • Options: Add your list of selectable choices.

Rules:

  • Cannot be both Required and Read Only.

  • Read-only fields must have at least one pre-checked box.

  • Required fields must have valid selections.

  • Field auto-signs if default selections exist.

  • Options list must include all valid values.

Document Signing View

  • Signers can check or uncheck boxes directly.

  • Hover over and click Reset to clear all selections.

  • Modify selections and click Complete to finish.


🔽 Dropdown (Select) Field

Purpose

Collects a single choice from a dropdown list of options.

Document Editor View

  1. Place the field where you want the dropdown.

  2. Click the Sliders icon to open settings.

Available Settings:

  • Required / Read Only

  • Options: Define selectable choices.

  • Default Value: Pre-selected option.

Rules:

  • Cannot be both Required and Read Only.

  • Read-only fields must have a default value.

  • Default must exist within the list of options.

  • Auto-signs if a default value is provided.

  • Options list must contain at least one item.

Document Signing View

  • Signers click the field to open the dropdown.

  • Select one of the options from the list.

  • Confirm by clicking Complete.
