What is BeingID?
BeingID is a grading system that reflects the level of verification your identity has undergone.
BeingID levels are assigned based on factors such as the type of ID document you provide, your state, and whether your address is verified. The more information you provide, the higher your BeingID level will be.
Note: Your BeingID level is influenced by the state you live in, which determines the highest level you can achieve. Refer to this list to quickly lookup the highest level available in your state.
Here’s a breakdown of the levels:
Level 1 - Government Direct: A verified digital ID created by a government agency at a government location. This level involves direct DMV verification, ensuring the highest level of assurance since all information is cross-checked with government databases. The ID and its associated details are confirmed as accurate and valid. Available only in California and New York.
Level 2 - DMV Direct at Address: Direct government database validation is performed for IDs created at the address on the ID. This level involves matching ID information and photos, offering a high level of assurance. It is available in states such as Rhode Island, Kentucky, California, Georgia, Arizona, Virgin Islands, and Louisiana.
Level 3 - DMV Direct: Direct government database validation is performed for IDs, but not at the address on the ID. This level verifies ID information and photos, but without address confirmation, resulting in a slightly lower assurance level compared to Level 2. Available in states like Rhode Island, Kentucky, California, Georgia, Arizona, Virgin Islands, and Louisiana.
Level 4 - DMV Verified at Address: This level involves validation through a secondary source, such as a cross-check with various databases at the address on the ID. Although not directly linked to DMV records, it still offers high assurance by verifying ID information. It is accessible in many states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, and others.
Level 5 - DMV Verified: Validation is performed similarly to Level 4, but without address confirmation. This level provides a moderate to high assurance by verifying ID information against reliable databases but without photo comparison. This level is available in states like Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, and others.
Level 6 - ID Scan (Unverified) at Address: This level is for IDs that are scanned but not checked against a government database, although they are created at the address on the ID. The verification relies on scanning technology to ensure the ID is genuine, providing a basic level of assurance. This level is available in Alaska, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Utah, Minnesota, and New Hampshire.
Level 7 - ID Scan (Unverified): Similar to Level 6, but without address verification. The ID is scanned to ensure it’s a real document, but no government database check is performed, offering a lower level of assurance. Available in Alaska, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Utah, Minnesota, and New Hampshire.
Level 8 - Passport Analysis: At this level, users upload their passport for verification. While the passport undergoes stringent checks for liveness and tampering, it is not validated against any government database. This level provides moderate assurance for individuals who may not have a state ID.
Level 9 - Event Interaction: This level is assigned to individuals who have not uploaded a government ID but have participated in 5 or more events over time, offering some historical validation. This level does not involve ID verification, so it provides minimal assurance. Available in all states.
Level 10 - Liveness Check: The most basic level of assurance, where only a liveness check is performed to confirm that the individual is a real human being. This level does not involve any ID verification, providing the lowest level of assurance. Available in all states.
