Why can't I update my profile?
ChainIT ID only stores and displays verified identity information. That means you can’t manually edit key profile fields (like legal name or address) because those details must remain aligned with your government-issued ID.
This helps ensure your identity data stays accurate, fraud-resistant, and reusable across workflows that depend on verified information (for example, KYC tasks requested by organizations).
What profile fields are “locked” (and why)
Your profile attributes are treated as verified attributes, meaning they come from the information captured during ID verification and are expected to match your legal identity documentation.
Common examples include:
-
Legal name
-
Date of birth
-
Address (if collected from your ID/document or related checks)
-
ID document details (type, expiration, etc.)
Because ChainIT ID is designed around verified identity credentials, these fields aren’t editable as free-form text. Instead, they’re updated by re-verifying with a current, valid document.
How to update your profile information (the supported way)
If you’ve changed your name, moved, or renewed your ID document, you’ll need to add or update your ID documents in the app. ChainIT ID will then refresh the verified attributes from your document scan and any required checks.
In the ChainIT ID app
-
Open the left side menu.
-
Tap Profile
-
Tap Add or Update ID Documents
-
Select the document type you want to add/update (e.g., Driver’s License / State ID, Passport)
-
Scan the document (front/back if prompted) and complete any required verification steps
This flow supports both:
-
Updating/replacing an existing ID document, and
-
Adding an additional ID document to your ChainIT ID (for example, adding a passport)
Do I need a new driver’s license first?
If your legal name or address changed, you generally need a new/updated government-issued ID that reflects those changes (for example, an updated driver’s license).
ChainIT ID can only update verified profile information based on what’s on your current valid documents—it won’t accept unverified manual edits.
Will I be charged to update my profile / ID document?
It depends on your verification status and what you’re doing.
-
ChainIT ID includes up to 4 ID updates/year of the original document type as part of the annual verification package. This means if you have onboarded with a Driver's License, and you need to update it, you won't be charged unless you exceed 4 updates within the verification period (1 year).
-
If you're adding a second or third ID document, you may incur additional verification fees depending on your account type and product line.
You’ll always see the cost before it's incurred when attempting to complete the action.
What if my verification is expired?
If your annual verification (or your document) is expired, you will be blocked from verification-dependent updates until you complete the required re-verification steps. The app will show a pop-up and guide you to complete the required verification when you attempt the action.
Troubleshooting: I still can’t update my profile
Common reasons include:
-
Your ID scan is blurry/glared or doesn’t pass validation
-
Your document is expired
-
Your verification is expired, so a renewal/reverification is required first
-
You’re trying to edit a verified field manually (not supported)
If you’re blocked, go back to: Sidebar > Profile > Add or Update ID Documents and follow the prompts.
