How to Use In-Person Age Verification

Learn how to use ChainIT ID's in-person age verification system with a QR code. This guide explains how to generate, display, and scan QR codes for seamless and secure age verification in physical locations.

In addition to embedding ChainIT ID’s age verification service into your website, you can also verify customer ages in person by utilizing a scannable QR code. This is ideal for physical locations where patrons need to verify their age before accessing age-restricted services or products.

Follow the steps below to set up and use in-person age verification with ChainIT ID:

  1. Prerequisites:
    1. Configure Business Rules: Before using age verification, ensure you have configured age verification rules to meets your requirements (e.g., minimum age and BeingID level). Click here for the full guide.
    2. Set Allowed Domains: To generate a QR code, you must first enter your allowed domains in the Installation Guide. Click here for more information.
  2. Generate the QR Code
    1. Log into the admin portal at https://admin-react.chainit.online/.
    2. Navigate to the Age Verification section in the left-side menu.
    3. Select Verify in Person to generate a QR Code for in-person verification.
    4. Note: This QR code cannot be printed, as a new QR code is generated for each scan. You must display the QR code webpage on a computer or other connected screen.
  3. Customer Scans the QR Code
    1. Instruct customers to open the ChainIT ID mobile app on their smartphones.
    2. Customers should select the option to Scan from within the app.
    3. They will then scan the displayed QR code using their device.
  4. Verification Process
    1. The ChainIT ID app will verify the customer’s identity and age based on their BeingID level and your defined age restrictions.
    2. The system checks whether the individual meets the required verification threshold (e.g., age, BeingID level) for the transaction or service.
  5. Success or Failure Notification
    1. After scanning the QR code, the site will display a Success or Failure message on the customer’s phone and on your desktop screen.
      1. Success: The individual meets the age requirement and can proceed with the transaction.
      2. Failure: The individual does not meet the requirement, and the transaction cannot be completed.
  6. Proceed with the Transaction
    1. Once the customer has successfully verified their age, you can allow them to continue with the age-restricted service or product.

Tips for Using In-Person Age Verification:

  1. Ensure the QR code is clearly visible and easily scannable by customers.
  2. Train staff to assist patrons in using the ChainIT ID mobile app to scan the QR code.
